I made this cake for a super, super sweet little girl (a bestie of my oldest) who was celebrating her 5th b-day. She and her mommy had planned a very sweet, girly, fun ballet/Nutcracker themed party with the colors soft (ballerina) pink and gold. She also threw me for a little loop! She wanted "everything strawberry"! So, I did my best: Strawberry cake, strawberry filling between the layers and strawberry swiss meringue buttercream for the frosting. I used a thin layer of traditional buttercream on top for the ruffles and rose and exterior. It was easier to control the color of the frosting that way. And the pointe shoes are gumpaste.
